Forum: feature_films Subject: PD Film Recommendations

Hello!
I am currently constructing a website on which to post public domain films for viewing and download, not unlike the Internet Archive. Beyond a few films ("His Girl Friday", "Dishonored Lady", "Killers From Space" and "The Chase") I am not sure what to post. Could I get some recommendations of Public Domain films that would be good to put up that are available here or otherwise easily obtainable (not on torrents)?

Good Lord.
That site changed a lot. I am the webmaster (different screen name) and I have changed it a lot. I wrote a little about the changes on that old URL, PDfilmsOnline.webs.com. Now I've moved the site to a different URL,and it's much better.
http://movietorrentcentral.cz.cc/ is where it is now. It's completely changed, but I learned a lot in the process. Please, if you have the time, take a moment to read about the site on the old URL. Then you can check out the new version at http://movietorrentcentral.cz.cc/
Pass it on.

Sita Sings the Blues. This may be the best feature animation I've ever seen.

These are films noirs that should have a wide appeal and are a pretty good introduction to the genre:
Kansas City Confidential (1952)
He walked by night (1948)
T-Men (1947)

These films noirs are pretty good too, if you like the first three:
Scarlet street (1945)
The stranger (1946)
The big combo (1955)
The strange love of Martha Ivers (1946)
D.O.A. (1950)
Panic in the streets (1950)

Here are more film noirs worth ckecking out if you grow a serious liking for the genre:
The amazing Mr. X (1948)
the crooked way (1949)
Impact (1949)
The man who cheated himself (1951)
The woman on the run (1950)
Too late for tears (1949; stick to the MPEG4 file: the MPEG2 file and its derivatives all are missing about 5mn worth of footage)
Trapped (1949)
The scar (1948)

Some other crime movies that are worth a look:
They made me a criminal (1939)
Million-dollar weekend (1948)

A few comedies:
My favorite brunette (1947; film noir spoof)
The inspector general (1949)
The road to Bali (1952)

A few period pieces:
The four feathers (1939; set in the UK during the Victorian era)
The scarlet pimpernel (1934; set during the French revolution)
Reign of Terror (1949; set during the French revolution)

Anyone who makes the plural of "film noir" correctly must have good recommendations. :)

I should single out "Impact" as an especially good suggestion in that list. The acting is a cut above in that one. Long, though.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Just one more question: Since I am using webs.com as my hosting, they won't let me upload the movies (apparently the file sizes are too big). I don't want to compress the files because that would compromise the quality. Sooo... I was thinking of putting them om Megaupload and putting a link on my site, but do you have a better suggestion?
Thanks again SO MUCH!

You can have them stream from IA. There's an 'embed this' link under the movie player on Feature Films pages. Just follow the instructions after clicking.

Thank you - that is a great idea! I found out anyway that it takes forever to upload an mp4 file to megaupload.
